ZAP Clinic Opens a Branch in Lampung and Holds Auditions for Women with Acne

ZAP Clinic officially opened its newest branch in Bandar Lampung on Friday (6/29). Located at Jl. Jenderal Sudirman No. 108 I-J, Bandar Lampung, ZAP Clinic Lampung is the 37th branch and also the ZAP outlet with the largest capacity.

ZAP Clinic opened the Lampung location in response to high consumer demand and the promising market potential in Lampung. Until now, many women living in Lampung have regularly flown to Jakarta specifically to receive treatments at ZAP Clinic. According to data compiled by ZAP, in 2017 there were 490 women from Lampung who were willing to make round-trip flights to Jakarta to receive treatments at ZAP Jakarta, spending an average of Rp 2.8 million on beauty treatments.

In conjunction with the grand opening of the Lampung branch, ZAP also held an “Acne-Prone Women Audition” via its Instagram account @zaplampung. Through this audition, held the day before the grand opening, ZAP selected eight women with acne—out of a total of about 40 women from Lampung who registered—to undergo active acne laser and photo facial treatments over the next two months. Maulani Diah Putri, one of the audition participants, shared that she’s been dealing with acne since she was in 6th grade: “Before trying ZAP in Bandung, I’d had treatments where they’d squeeze my pimples—it was so painful I’d end up crying. Since the ZAP treatment doesn’t hurt, I got really excited when I found out they’d finally opened a location in Bandar Lampung.” Another participant, Laela Ardianti, also shared that her acne-prone skin made her feel insecure: “Who wants to have acne? It automatically makes you feel insecure.”

Acne is a skin problem very commonly experienced by women aged 11 to 30. A 2016 study from Oxford Medical College in India showed that the severity of acne has a significant negative impact on a person’s quality of life and self-esteem. Meanwhile, a 26-year study by the University of Calgary in Canada found that people with acne have a higher risk of depression compared to those without acne. “Acne is not a problem to be taken lightly. 85 percent of teenage girls worldwide will experience acne,” said Dr. Adinda Fitrianingsih of ZAP Clinic. Out of concern for this acne problem, ZAP Clinic took the initiative to help women in Lampung with acne through the “Acne-Prone Women Audition.”

As of mid-June 2018, ZAP Clinic had established 37 locations across 13 cities. The enthusiastic market response has led ZAP to plan to expand its network to 50 locations by the end of 2018. Throughout the past Ramadan, the number of women receiving treatments at ZAP Clinic increased significantly to 49,228, up from a monthly average of approximately 43,772. The number of laser treatments during the past Ramadan also increased to 99,290 from a monthly average of 94,512 treatments.

Since transitioning from a hair removal clinic to a beauty clinic in 2013, ZAP Clinic’s growth has exceeded the beauty industry average. In 2017, ZAP performed 900,000 laser skin treatments. The total number of treatments throughout 2017 also grew by 80 percent, accompanied by a 40 percent increase in the number of locations. This growth far exceeds the beauty industry’s average growth rate of only about 12 percent per year (L’Oreal data – 2016).
