As Indonesia’s busiest airport, with more than 10 million passenger movements in 2020[1], Soekarno-Hatta Airport holds promising potential for business and investment. One business located in a strategic area of Soekarno-Hatta Airport is the Shell gas station in the airport’s aerotropolis. This gas station is a partnership between Shell Indonesia and PT Sigma Niaga Gas, a service company operating in the oil and gas sector.
It was Gober Pramono, a Shell business partner, who took the initiative to develop the Shell Soewarna gas station business in the airport area. In line with Shell’s mission to consistently understand customer needs, Gober designed the Shell Soewarna gas station as a one-stop-shop that caters to the diverse needs of the constant flow of airport passengers.
“We noticed that many airport visitors need a comfortable, well-equipped, and, of course, convenient temporary stop near the airport. Therefore, we introduced this one-stop-shop gas station concept as an alternative that can meet all their needs in a single, strategic location,” said Gober.
In addition to airport visitors, Gober is also tapping into the potential of the surrounding office and business districts. The presence of the Sowan Souvenir Center, a convenience store, a Kopi Kenangan café, and various culinary SMEs complements the facilities available at the Shell Soewarna gas station.
Faced with a pandemic that has impacted business, Gober strives to remain vigilant in identifying opportunities. He responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by opening a testing lab for prospective airline passengers who need COVID-19 testing services before departure. Approximately 200 visitors come each day to take advantage of this service.
This Shell gas station, designed as an integrated one-stop-shop, was built to make customers’ journeys more meaningful in line with their ever-evolving needs.
The Shell Gas Station Business
Through the Shell Gas Station Dealer Partner program, Shell is committed to helping drive the Indonesian economy by providing entrepreneurs with the opportunity to own and manage gas stations in partnership with Shell. In addition, Shell also provides partners with the opportunity to earn additional income beyond fuel sales through Non-Fuel Retailing (NFR) businesses such as convenience stores, restaurants, coffee shops, ATMs, laundromats, and others.
Agung Saputra, Head of the Dealer-Owned Network at Shell Indonesia, said, “Through the partnership program we’ve launched, Shell aims to invite entrepreneurs—both in urban and rural areas—to work together to drive Indonesia’s economy through the gas station business and maximize existing potential through additional businesses at the same location.”
Currently, Shell operates more than 150 gas stations across the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek), West Java, East Java, and North Sumatra. For more information about the Shell gas station business, visit www.shell.co.id/mitraSPBU or send an email to bisnis-spbu@shell.com
