The digital world offers business owners the opportunity to showcase their products instantly. But will those products sell instantly? Of course not. There’s still a process you need to understand so you can navigate the world of digital marketing with confidence.
As one of Jakarta’s Digital PR Agencies, Media Buffet PR also operates in the field of Digital Marketing, which is why our work revolves around the concept of “funneling.” Let’s explore funneling to better understand consumer behavior when purchasing products!

Have you ever had a sudden urge to shop and found yourself thinking about buying a new shirt even though you didn’t really need it? Whether you realize it or not, you’ll go through several steps—like choosing the right brand, weighing various factors from price to other buyers’ reviews, and finally buying the new outfit you’ve wanted ever since your paycheck hit your account. That journey is what’s called “funneling.”
Essentially, the funnel consists of four basic stages: Awareness, Interest, Decision, and Action.
Now imagine you’re the owner of the clothing brand mentioned above. To navigate this first stage, you need to introduce the products you want to sell to the general public.
Promote it through social media. Set aside a budget and place ads on platforms that align with your target demographic. Show your audience that your product is ready to be purchased, and don’t forget to wrap it in a message that’s valuable and resonates with potential customers.
If the first stage of the funnel is executed well, it will spark interest among potential customers who notice your brand’s products.
You can maintain this interest through the quality of the products you offer. It’s not just the products—your “store” must also be appealing. By “store,” we mean your brand’s website or social media accounts.
At this stage, potential customers are already ready to buy your product. Now they’re staring at their mobile banking balance for quite a while, while fretting about their financial situation at the end of the month.
But all those doubts will vanish if your product is truly that valuable to them. Especially if you’re responsive to the questions they ask in the chat section of your online store. They might even become loyal customers and make another purchase in the future.
Great product reviews, friendly service, a trustworthy brand, and prices that fit their budget. What are you waiting for? Potential customers have finally purchased the product you’re offering. Now they’re customers—no longer just “potential customers.” This final stage of the sales funnel is every business owner’s dream.
Once the product has sold, don’t forget to thank those who chose your product. Maintain a good relationship with them by offering attractive promotions, or you can also provide loyalty rewards to buyers who place repeat orders.
There’s a reason this strategy is called a funnel. Just like a funnel with a progressively narrower opening, this concept can be used to analyze the conversion of leads into sales from the strategies you implement. For example, if 1,000 people are initially aware of your product, it’s possible that only 50 of them will eventually reach the “action” stage and actually purchase your product.
By understanding the funnel, you can identify at which stage potential customers decide not to buy your product. This insight serves as a foundation for evaluating and refining your future marketing strategies.
The sales funnel isn’t the only strategy you can use to drive sales. Recently, a new strategy has emerged that’s said to be more efficient at building relationships with a brand’s consumers: the Marketing Flywheel. What other strategies are there? We’ll discuss the Marketing Flywheel in our next post.
That’s a brief explanation of the funnel in digital marketing. For more insights on PR and digital marketing, check out the Media Buffet PR Blog!
