As we enter the new year of 2022, the Jakarta-based PR agency Media Buffet PR kicked off the year by working a little and hosting a year-end dinner. Yes, a year-end dinner at the start of the year. It seems the world’s timeline is no longer relevant to us agency devotees. We agency warriors always make the most of every spare second we have to laugh and have fun together, no matter the occasion.
Usually, our daily entertainment at the office is limited to cooking together and listening to music. But that’s more than enough to bring balance to our workdays in terms of daily fulfillment.

But this time at Media Buffet PR, things were different. As the year came to a close, Media Buffet PR viewed 2021 as a year of significant progress, with sales increasing by up to 60%. This was certainly no easy feat to achieve during the pandemic. To celebrate this achievement, Media Buffet PR held a group dinner during the second week of January—at a time when other companies might have already scheduled theirs before the New Year or even before Christmas.
Why not at the end of the year? Because we used the New Year’s momentum to take a break. Carrying that workload at the end of the year is exhausting, guys. For us, a “year-end dinner” is just a name—the event can be held anytime as long as it’s still in December or January. Maybe this event would be better called a “New Year’s Dinner”?

It seems we weren’t able to make the most of the karaoke facilities at Warung Saco in Ragunan. After all, none of our team members has a background as a former musician, let alone as a band member. However, listening to music while singing along has become a habit for us at the office. It’s okay that we’re all tone-deaf—what matters is that we can let off the steam from the day’s work together.
Oh, and like most other professional companies, we also do a Secret Santa. Basically, it’s just exchanging gifts. The gift-exchange process was a lot of fun, because that’s where the essence of give and take really comes through. On one hand, you give something, but you also receive something. That evening, every team member felt double the joy.

The year-end dinner wrapped up with a farewell for Debora on her final day of her internship, followed by watching the year-end video—the result of Kiara’s hard work, a member of the digital team. Featuring a montage of our workdays, a compilation of interviews with each team member, and a tribute to the late Mas Yoga, Kiara successfully stirred the emotions of the team members as they watched together. That brief screening served as the closing of the year-end dinner celebration, while also marking the beginning of our journey to embrace the new challenges that will come in 2022.
It was simple, indeed. There was no need for a lavish meal at a five-star restaurant, let alone a massive New Year’s party with alcohol and wild dancing to the beat of obscure club music—the kind that usually ends with a bill running into the tens of millions. Indonesian cuisine, a long table, a TV, speakers, and just two microphones were all we needed to have a great time before heading back to Lebak Bulus and getting back to work throughout 2022.
