LinkedIn is, so to speak, the go-to platform for students, job seekers, and recruiters. These days, everyone looks for “people” in a professional context through LinkedIn, not other social media platforms.
So, it’s safe to say that it’s crucial for job hunters and professionals alike to polish their LinkedIn profiles. This topic was explored in the “Talk and Share Vol. 4” webinar hosted by Media Buffet PR, which focused on building a personal brand via LinkedIn a while back. This engaging discussion was moderated by Bima Marzuki, CEO of Media Buffet PR, and featured two individuals who have a unique presence on LinkedIn: Haryo Suryosumarto—better known as Tommy—Founder and Managing Director of Headhunter Indonesia, and Ms. Deecy Lauw, a hotel and lifestyle content creator.
There were many interesting insights to be gained from this Talk N Share session. One of them was that everyone agreed that through LinkedIn, we can engage professionally and meet many people outside our own industry. Unlike Instagram, which is mostly used for entertainment purposes, LinkedIn is filled with professionals. In fact, you can even land international clients—and turn those connections into sales!
Unlike other social media platforms where you have to post diligently from morning to evening—almost like taking medicine—to get high engagement, on LinkedIn you don’t need to be that diligent (or people might think you’re just slacking off) because the platform’s algorithm is uniquely designed to reach your target audience.
LinkedIn is the only platform that really pays attention to us. For example, when we engage with content on public relations—whether through likes or comments—that activity is recorded and appears in the homepage feeds of connections who share a similar interest in public relations. This way, our connections know what content we’re currently interested in or commenting on. This is what makes personal branding on LinkedIn so wide-reaching—thanks to this algorithm, your content can “travel” freely. The more interactions your content gets, the more LinkedIn will spread it to people relevant to your topic or content.
As Tokopedia says, “Just Get Started!” Personal branding is all about helping relevant people get to know you—what you do and what your areas of expertise are. How can they like you if they don’t even know you, right? So introduce yourself more deeply, figure out who your target audience is and what kind of image you want to build on LinkedIn, and most importantly, be consistent! With that formula, boom! You’re guaranteed to never be out of work because job offers will be lining up.
Good luck!
